Summer 2012

Dear Parents and/or Guardians:

It is with great excitement that we approach the beginning of another school year in the Pascack Valley Regional High School District.  In particular, we welcome our new freshmen to the district as they begin their exciting journey through high school.  Also, Pascack Hills High School will welcome its new principal, Mr. Glenn deMarrais and assistant principal Mr. Tim Wieland, along with ten new teachers who will be new to the district.

You will be receiving information from your child’s respective high school with detailed information regarding school procedures, emergency contact information, and student schedules.  Some of this information will be mailed to you, but we are attempting to send and receive information from you electronically via email and a system called ZippSlip.

The purpose of this correspondence is to inform you of important policies, transportation privileges, free or reduced lunch opportunities, a state-mandated survey, and insurance opportunities as they pertain to all students throughout the regional high school district.

Please review the following information at the conclusion of this letter and use the hyperlinks to access the appropriate websites and documents for additional information.

I encourage you to visit our redesigned home page (http://www.pascack.k12.nj.us) as it provides parents with a parent resource tab for frequency needed information.  Of course you are always encouraged to reach out to our building administration, guidance counselors, and other staff members if you have specific concerns or needs.  I wish you a continued safe and enjoyable summer and we look forward to seeing your son or daughter in September!

Sincerely,

Signature

P. Erik Gundersen

Superintendent of Schools

Open Gradebook:

Last year the district engaged in an open gradebook pilot program that allowed student and parents to see their individual assignment grades during the mid-marking period and end of marking period grade reporting periods.  Parent, student, and teacher feedback regarding the pilot was overwhelmingly positive.  As a result, parents and students will have access to student grades throughout the entire school year.  It is our expectation that this increased level of transparency regarding student grades will result in continued productive conversations between parents, student, and teachers about what they are learning and achieving.

Parents and students will receive an e-mail message from the Director of Instructional Technology regarding resetting “Parent/Student Access” passwords as we increase our level of security to prepare for open gradebook.

District Transportation Information:

If you have questions about eligibility, you may call our transportation coordinator at 201-358-7004, extension 1013.  If your student’s name is on our eligibility list for free transportation, a bus pass and schedule of bus routes will be sent directly to you under a separate mailing at the end of August.  Students must carry their bus pass with them at all times during the school year. Click

 Bollinger Student Insurance:

The Pascack Valley Regional High School District has purchased insurance for all students providing valuable protection against accidental injuries occurring during school hours or during school sponsored and supervised activities.  Parents have the option to expand coverage for their child.  Additional insurance/enrollment information is available at the Bollinger website for Pascack Valley Regional.
